Madrid is well known for its luxury trains. Getting to and from Madrid is effortless with a wide range of transport services available. The International trains come from many European countries such as France and cities like Barcelona. Madrid’s National trains have two types and are known as Ave and National covering the length of Spain. Regional trains in Madrid are known as Cercanias, and they connect Madrid to the suburbs and cities near by. These trains are a very cost effective way to travel and see the surrounding scenery as you go.
If you are travelling to Madrid by car you will be using some of the major motorways leading into the city. These motorways are marked by either an N or A and AP or R prefix for tolled roads. There are six main motorways which are the A1- A6 coming from north, Bilbao direction to northwest from Galicia.
Eurolines bus service provides comfortable transport from Portugal, Marocco and France to Madrid. This is probably one of the cheapest ways to get around Europe.
Getting to and from the airport in Madrid is effortless as the transport service is second to none. Madrid’s Barajas airport has its own train station giving you easy access to the city centre. The Metro train under Terminal 2 and 4 can get you to Nuevos Ministerios in just 12 minutes. Follow the signs for Metro from Terminal 1,2 & 3. Trains leave every 5 minutes from 6.00am to 2.00am. When returning to the airport is it possible to check-in at this Metro station from 6.30am and 10.30pm. Please be advised to check with the airline prior to travel to make sure it applies to your flight. The price is currently €2. The Metro Tourist Travel Pass is a good way to save money on your travel. For €5 this ticket will allow you to travel on any Metro, bus or suburban train. A 10 trip option Metrobus ticket will cost €7 and can be used the Metro and city buses.
Taxis are waiting at the terminals to take you to wherever it is you need to go. Some companies will offer private shuttle services to and from the airport. Great for groups of people. Aerocity is one such service, which can be booked in advance and can take up to 7 people comfortably.
